Oh my gosh you guys. I hesitate to write this, as I know someday my kid is going to want to strangle me with his bare hands for disclosing this – but William (who is an 8 year old BOY) has started to enjoy watching AND REENACTING scenes from My Little Pony.
And here’s the REAL weirdness: there is apparently an entire subset of the male population who LOVES My Little Pony. Grown men. They are called (and I swear I’m not making this up) “Brony”. A bro who likes ponies.
It all started at our house with Paige becoming infatuated with first the cartoon Ponies, and then the plastic figurines. She received an entire set of ponies for Christmas from her grandparents and has been forcing them on her brother for a week now. Finally, in a moment of sheer weakness, William agreed to sit down and watch an episode of My Little Pony with her.
That’s all it took. He’s now a Brony.
This morning they came to me with a plan to spend some of their Christmas money on a wee pet dragon that is featured in the show. I think they reasoned that if they bought it, then William could play Ponies while maintaining some semblance of his male dignity. Since returning from the store they have played ponies non-stop apart from the hour that our neighbors came over to play (at which time William pretended to be completely repelled by all things Pony). As soon as they left, it was back to Ponyville for both of them.
I have heard William explaining to Paige that she is never to speak of this to anyone, ever, under any circumstances.
So naturally I’m blogging about it. But you are never allowed to speak of this to anyone, ever, under any circumstances. *Ahem*

OMG, that is so sweet, poor William! Can I just say, I love that your 8 year old boy likes MLP more than, I don’t know, weapons and the Transformers? (or maybe he likes those too?) Funny, Genevieve got a set of 12 tiny MLPs for Xmas, and she has zero interest in them whatsoever. She’s a total tomboy and is more excited about the sports-themed socks I got her.

My baby boy is 10, and still sits and watches the Winks Club show with my oldest girl (19!) I just shake my head and appreciate that they still find common ground.
